Spectroscopy vs. Electrochemistry: Catalyst Layer Thickness Effects on Operando/In Situ Measurements

چکیده
In recent years, operando/in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) has become an important tool in the electrocatalysis community. However, high catalyst loadings often required to acquire XA-spectra with a satisfactory signal-to-noise ratio frequently imply use of thick layers (CLs) large ion- and mass-transport limitations. To shed light on impact this variable spectro-electrochemical results, study we investigate Pd-hydride formation carbon-supported Pd-nanoparticles (Pd/C) unsupported Pd-aerogel similar Pd surface areas but drastically different morphologies electrode packing densities. Our XAS rotating disk (RDE) measurements unveil that CL-thickness largely determines hydride trends inferred from experiments, therewith calling for minimization such experiments complementary thin-film control measurements.

Effects of hemoglobin concentration, skull thickness, and the area of the cerebrospinal fluid layer on near-infrared spectroscopy measurements.
BACKGROUND Previous studies documented that near-infrared spectroscopy values were affected by factors related to optical path length, such as hemoglobin concentration, the differential path length factor, skull thickness (t-skull), and the area of the cerebrospinal fluid layer (a-CSFL). Lately, the NIRO-100 (Hamamatsu Photonics, Hamamatsu, Japan) has provided a tissue oxygen index (TOI) that t...

Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) efficiently convert the reaction energy of hydrogen and oxygen to electricity, water and heat. The oxygen reduction reaction occurs in composite nanostructured catalyst layers (CL) formed from Pt nanoparticles supported on a network of carbon particle agglomerates. Oxygen reaches the reaction site through diffusion. Understanding the diffusion pro...

The adhesion between poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) hemispheres coated with layer-by-layer (LbL) assemblies of polyelectrolytes and rigid, planar substrates was investigated using Johnson, Kendall, and Roberts (JKR) contact mechanics. Measurements were performed against amine-functionalized glass slides both in air and in aqueous solutions of controlled pH. Despite the increased density of negat...
متن کاملEffects of Weak Layer Angle and Thickness on the Stability of Rock Slopes
This paper researches two key factors (angle and thickness) of a weak layer in relation to their influencing mechanism on slope stability. It puts forward the sliding surface angle and morphological model criteria for the control of rock slopes and realization of its failure mechanism. By comparing the Failure Modes and Safety Factors (Fs) obtained from numerical analysis, the influence pattern...
